死神・無人機はアップグレードで最長2日間の連続飛行が可能に

GA-ASI (General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc.) は、MQ-9 Reaper の航続性能延伸オプションについて発表した。自己資金 (IRAD : Internal Research and Development) によって Endurance Enhancement Study なるスタディを実施、以下の 2 種類を提示している。

・Option 1 :
翼下への燃料タンク追加と降着装置の強化により、航続時間を 27 時間から 37 時間に延伸。ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance) に最適化したオプション。
・Option 2 :
翼幅を 66ft から 88ft に延伸、さらに翼下への燃料タンク追加と降着装置の強化により、航続時間を 27 時間から 42 時間に延伸。

降着装置については 2012 年の初頭に、トレーリング アームの新型化による強化と最大離陸重量の引き上げを発表済み。
