SAIC、米海兵隊に水陸両用強襲車輌の生存性向上モデル「AAV SU」第一陣 10 輌をデリバリー

バージニア州マクリーンに本拠を持つ SAIC (Science Applications International Corp.) は去る 3 月 4 日に、同州クワンティコの海兵隊基地に向けて水陸両用強襲車輌の生存性向上モデル AAV SU (Assault Amphibious Vehicle Survivability Upgrade) の第一陣となる 10 輌のデリバリーをおこなった。

AAV-SU は、技術生産開発 (EMD: Engineering and Manufacturing Development) 段階を通じて、陳腐化した AAV-P7 に代わって改修されたもので、デマー社 (Demmer Corp.) をはじめ 9 社が協力。アップグレードアーマー、オートモーティブ、サスペンション、衝撃軽減シート、内張り装甲 (spall liner) や外部燃料タンクを有している。

海兵隊の PEO (Program Executive Officer) ランドシステムズによる 12 ヶ月に渡る広範な試験がおこなわれた後、2019 年に運用部隊へデリバリーとなり、その後 2023 年までに完全作戦運用能力 (FOC: Full operational capability) の獲得を目指している。
