国連後援下での停戦合意も空しく、初日から各地で戦闘が発生し、過去最大規模の空爆がおこなわれるなど、混迷を極めているシリア内戦。
アラブ首長国連邦・ドバイに本拠を構えるアラビア語国際ニュース衛星放送 Al Arabiya News (EN) では、シリア内戦下で活躍し、アサド政権軍を震え上がらせ、生ける伝説となっているスナイパー "Moscow Sniper" なる人物をリポート。Moscow Sniper の名の由来は、映画俳優 Jude Law 主演の戦争映画 "Enemy at the Gates" (邦題「スターリングラード」2001年 米・独・英・アイルランド合作) にあるという。
この伝説のスナイパーについて初報した英紙 The Telegraph によると、彼はその他の反政府側の一般的な兵士とは異なり、政権側から離脱する 6ヶ月前 までは、政府軍で訓練を受けていた、いわゆる「職業軍人」。匿名を条件でおこなわれたインタビューの席で彼は「シリア東北部の都市 Aleppo (アレッポ) で発生した大規模な数多くの戦闘にも参加し、常に勝利へ貢献した」と語り、戦禍で荒廃した建物から建物へと縫うようにゆっくり進み、狙撃に向いた絶好のスポットへ移動、「76名 以上の敵をライフルで仕留めた」と誇らしげに語った。
