フィンランド軍の将来個人用戦闘装備計画、「Future Warrior 2020」プログラムへの納入に向けて開発された新型のタクティカル ヘッドギアシステムが、近く開催予定の武器・兵器展示会の席でローンチを飾る。

開発を手掛けたのは、Savox Communications 社。同社は 1982 年に創設された企業で、指揮・統制・通信および情報システム (C3I: Command Control Communication; C-Cubed-I) を得意とする。西ヨーロッパのルクセンブルクに本拠を持ち、フィンランド、ドイツ、フランス、イギリス、アメリカ、カナダ、中国で展開している。

今回、中東・アラブ首長国連邦の首都アブ・ダビにある ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre) で、2 月 22 日から 26 日の会期で開催される IDEX (International Defense Exhibition & Conference) 2015 展示会に、「THOR (Tactical Headgear system for changing Operational Requirements) 」と名付けられた新製品を持ち込む。

THOR は頭部を保護する防弾性能の他、コミュニケーション、ナイトビジョン、ヒアリング・プロテクション、電源アクセサリーといった拡張性に特徴を持つ。

防弾性能を支えるのは、日本の繊維メーカー、東洋紡の最新テクノロジーによって生み出された超高強力ポリエチレン繊維「ダイニーマ (Dyneema), "-(CH2-CH2)n-" 」とアラミド系素材。ダイニーマは、水に浮くほどの軽量素材ながらも、アラミド系を凌駕する超高強度・高弾性率のスーパー繊維として知られる。

重量は防弾シェル 2.3 Kg、ナイトビジョン・シングル状態で 2.7 Kg、デュアルで 3.2 Kg とのこと。その他、同ヘッドギアシステムにおける特徴は以下の通り。

* Lightweight helmet shell based on the advanced Dyneema® material technology
* Boltless design without through holes for highest possible head protection
* High cut model. Mid-cut and low cut versions are also available
* Protection performance against bullets: stops a 9mm 8.0g/124gr. FMJ bullet at 430m/s

* Exceeds Level II protection requirements of NIJ Standard 0106.01 for ballistic helmets

* Hear through feature with stereo microphones for improved situational awareness

軍事ニュースサイト SHEPHARD によると、フィンランド国防軍 (FDF: Finnish Defence Force) への初度納入については、繰り返し契約 (Rolling Contract) の一部として履行されるもので、2015 年後半でのデリバリーが予定されており、その調達数量については明かされていないとのこと。
