Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. は、新オフロードビークル (ROVs : Recreational Off-highway Vehicles) 第 1 弾、700 cc FI (Fuel-Injected) エンジンを搭載する "VIKING" (バイキング) を、2013 年 8 月中旬に北米市場で発売する。VIKING は、同社が掲げている中期経営計画 (2013 -2015) の RV (Recreational Vehicle) 事業で中核を担うモデルとして位置付けられ、ヤマハオフロードビークル初の 3 人乗りモデル。ナンバープレートを取得し一般公道を走行することはできない。価格は 11,499 ドルとし、発売から 1 年で 17,000 台の販売計画を立てている。VIKING の主な特徴は以下の通り。

(1) the "Ultramatic" transmission and drive system that provides a smooth ride across the entire speed range, (2) separate seats with good body fit and hold designed for easy boarding for up to three people, (3) a large, flat rear cargo bed designed for ease of loading and (4) a 4WD system with excellent performance on rough roads. Note that this model cannot be licensed to run on public roads.
